We also carry a unique collection of vintage and new pottery, most of which is sourced locally from nearby Georgia artisans. Whether you want to display your favorite specimen in classic terra cotta or need a cast stone urn for your porch, we are here to help you select the perfect vessel to showcase your potted creations.

We believe in the power of plants, their ability to teach observation and patience, resilience and perseverance, their ability to dazzle and beguile, to nourish and heal the soul. At Reedy Creek Nurseries, our mission is to inspire you to grow, and we encourage everyone who pays us a visit to cultivate beauty and joy through the magic of plants.

Origin Story

Plant a Seed

Who knows when it began. Maybe it began as a child hunting wild violets in Reedy Creek's woods with my mother. Maybe it started in Mrs. Evelyn Warren’s garden where I’d hide after school for hours, coveting her camellias. Maybe it was trips with Mema to Mrs. Elsie Brannon’s greenhouse. Maybe it was the scent of damp dirt. The smell of life. Maybe it was working the pistachio orchard in California’s San Joaquin with my stepdad, Skeet. Or maybe it started with the dogwoods Mema and Granny Sills planted at Reedy Creek over a century ago, a thousand seedlings that miraculously survived a terrible drought, trees that are still here and whose offspring run wild all over the woods like little miracles. Regardless, I've always had a fascination with plants.

Most likely it was a culmination of these things that led me to pursue a biology degree and then on to an internship and early career with one of the largest horticulture companies in the United States. For over fifteen years I worked in all facets of the industry, starting out in the propagation department, performing irrigation and soil trials, then on to a managerial role, and then on to a corporate role that involved integrating all of our nursery businesses onto a single technology platform. This is when I turned from a plant geek to tech geek and pursued a career in software consulting. Consulting provided me with invaluable business experience and opportunities to work with multiple global companies in a diverse range of industries. But, I will never forget walking in the growing fields one day with my former boss, discussing my desire for a career change. While supportive, he looked at me and said, "One day you'll look back on your career, and you'll remember this job fondly as the best job you ever had." He was right.

I will also never forget the day I was at Reedy Creek sitting on the porch with Mema. I'd come from California to visit, and I was telling her about my job at the nursery and how much I loved it. I remember her looking out over the pond. She was quiet. She was imagining. Then she said, "Maybe Reedy Creek could be a nursery one day." Mema always had vision.

Three decades later, when my husband, Thomas, and I decided to move our family from Edisto Island, SC back to my home town in Metter, Georgia, an idea sparked. We wanted to open a business, and I offered, "How 'bout a nursery?"

So here I am, back to the best job I ever had, back to my roots, back to Reedy Creek hunting wild violets again.

All it takes is a seed. Press it in the dirt and see what happens.
